November News

About 75 rain showers have fallen since I last blogged...and a few thunderstorms have caused havoc. The boobybirds have come and gone. The dragonflies have successfully launched two short, but powerful, invasions on the village. Fishing is good again - barracuda, shark, and snapper (black and red) and likewise the dinner menus. On a personal note, Laura and Clint spent a super weekend with me in Belize, bringing lots of replenishment for both the body and soul. One morning we toured the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. What a treat! No jaguar spottings, unless you want to count jaguar footprints! Along our path!! We saw lots of other wildlife, including toucans, vultures, wood thrushes, several otters playing in a stream, a snake peering up at us from the edge of our path, and huge ant mounds where ants were busy moving leaves inside. We also spent time relaxing at one of the nearby resorts. (Check out the new pictures.) The best part of their visit was seeing them, but maybe the next best thing was the new Chinese-made bike they bought for me at the Chinese store in the village...no more long walks in the hot sun for me!! Life is good.

Hey Sis -
With the help of a techy, we are now writing you on your blog! We've read all your notes & comments w/great interest & are so excited about your fun "retirement" in the Peace Corps! To say we were surprised to learn of your latest move...is WAY underestimated!! Guess you'll be there for a year? LOVED all your pictures; what an idyllic spot you've found for yourself in this crazy world! No doubt you're doing much good for humanity & are making a positive impact on everyone there! Keep blogging & we'll keep reading! All is well here; w/all the development in all these parts, am sure you would not recognize G'Town! The growth around Austin esp. north has been AMAZING! I think the 2 of us would trade the sights here & yours there most anytime. Speaking of amazing...you look GREAT...just like in '54, well, maybe '04!
Ron noticed the huts roofed w/palm fronds & wants to know if all the huts come w/Pina Collados?? Have fun, Sis; what a fabulous opportunity you have there & we know you'll take advantage fully! Good Luck w/the unknown language (to us) you're attempting to learn! Happy New Year...on New Year's Eve!
Love...sandra & ron
P.S. Enjoyed seeing pictures of Laura & Clint!

Sandra and Ron-
Hope this response gets to you. I never know with these new-fangled things what works and what doesn't. It was great hearing from you.
I'll be here til August 2009. Then who knows. Too soon to decide.
Will (brother #2) lives in Austin and about 2 years ago, the three of us siblings met there for a quick get together. We toured the Southwestern campus and was I ever surprised.
Belize in general - and Hopkins in particular - is great. Yes, most of the homes -until a few years ago - were all made with thatch roofs. And the rum here is extraordinary - called One Barrel Rum. But My drink of choice is Lighthouse Lager!
Sorry to be so late in getting back to you. You know me!!
love,
Sis
